Individuals who identify as homosexual, bisexual, transgender or with other queer expressions (LGBTQ+) have the right to seek protection in Sweden if their human rights are violated in another country. Among other things, LGBTQ+ migrants can carry traumatic experiences of discrimination, threats, torture and war injuries.
To gain insight into their experiences as well as meet their need for support, this research project has started.
Our goal
The aim of the project is to contribute with in-depth understanding of how accessible, fair, inclusive and culturally competent care can be achieved for LGBTQ+ migrants that have sought protection in Sweden. The project will explore how nursing education, clinical care and research can designed to reduce suffering and promote health among LGBTQ+ migrants.
Citizen participation and participation of healthcare professionals
With help of people sharing their own experiences, we want to produce relevant and important results. We do this by employing them as employees in the project. We want to collaborate together with those who carry their own experiences. It is an important and crucial part of the project.
Cooperation
We closely cooperate with the Swedish Red Cross Competence Centre for Rehabilitation of Torture and War Trauma. Our aim is to have meaningful collaborations with different people and agencies, both within research and other contexts.
