In November, Maria Gottvall and Tommy Carlsson from the research project A Safer Future attended a day at Diskrimineringsombudsmannen (DO, Equality ombudsman) in Sweden. During the day, they held a presentation about the research conducted in the project and the findings so far. DO is a government agency that works on behalf of the Swedish parliament and government to promote equal rights and opportunities and to combat discrimination.
We are happy that we got an opportunity to present our work and discuss the challenges that LGBTQ+ forced migrants face following their arrival in Sweden. We hope that our findings can add to the existing knowledge about discrimination and inequities in Sweden. There is much that needs to be improved when it comes to rights and equity for forced migrants and LGBTQ+ people. Says Tommy Carlsson, principal investigator and project leader.
