Exciting news! The research project A safer future has begun to prioritize future research addressing psychosocial health and wellbeing of forced migrants who identify as LGBTQ+. The team in the project has launched a series of workshops to promote collaboration between with migrants with lived experience, researchers, and clinical representatives. The workshops will help in identifying interventions that can offer psychosocial support for these migrants. The first workshop, which recently took place, focused on the challenges that are encountered after arriving in Sweden. The contributors also discussed the various types of support that can help forced migrants identifying as LGBTQ+.
The workshop generated several ideas and valuable insights. For example, contributors highlighted the social exclusion and loneliness that many experience. The widespread discrimination encountered in society was also addressed, including in discrimination in health services. The research team is optimistic that these workshops will help identify relevant interventions that will enhance the psychosocial support for the target population.
The workshops will continue throughout 2023, and the research team is very excited to continue collaborating with members of the LGBTQ+ community to prioritize their needs and ensure their voices are heard. This project has the potential to create positive change for forced migrants who identify as LGBTQ+, and the research team is looking forward to understand more about how to make research as relevant as possible.
